Agriculture Adventure Day

Girl Scouts and the California Women for Agriculture invite you and your family to attend this special agricultural fair.  Participate in hands-on booths, work on Try-Its, badges and Interest Project patches and get a taste of the It’s Your Planet-Love it! journey.  Meet women from local farms, ranches, restaurants, and universities, learn about a variety of farm animals, and make your own ice cream in a bag.  Fee includes admittance to the event, program supplies and participation patch.  Please note there is a $10 per car parking fee.

Brownie Quest Journey Icon

Pack a bag and join the Brownie Quest.  Travel the “Trail of the Elf” and begin to solve the mystery of the “three keys.”  Play games, sing songs, and create crafts during this overnight adventure.  Girls will receive a Brownie Quest book and complete the first two awards on the Brownie Quest Journey.  Each troop will receive a leader packet so they can complete the Brownie Quest.  Two adults are required to attend with each troop; 1 additional adult may attend for groups that have 13 or more girls.   Fee includes meals, lodging, program materials, one Journey book per girl, one adult Journey guide per troop, and the Brownie Quest awards for each girl.

Career Exploration in Yosemite

Spend the weekend exploring Yosemite and learning about careers for women in our National Parks. This trip will start from Modesto and then head off to beautiful Yosemite. Participants can plan to meet in Modesto on Friday night for a sleepover. On Saturday the trip will allow awesome exploring of Yosemite National Park, guest speakers, and tours.  An older Girl Scout experience with the National Park Service offering a variety of talks and interpretive walks in the park. When we return from this adventure participants will have the option of spending Saturday evening in Modesto or returning home. Fee includes optional sleepovers, food, bus trip, entry fee into Yosemite, souvenir, and more.

Caving

Rappel and spelunk through Moaning Caverns, one of the Motherlode’s treasured caves.  Girls will have the opportunity to rappel 165 feet down into the cave and spend two hours on a guided tour through amazing rock formations.  Be prepared to get very dirty!  This experience is not for the claustrophobic or faint of heart.  Fee includes professional guides, equipment, and a snack.  In order to rappel girls must be 12 years old, at least 4’10”, and weigh at least 100 pounds.

Digging Through the Past Interest Project

Explore the exciting ways scientists uncover information about the past with the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center.  During this action packed day, Cadettes will participate in seven activities needed to complete their Digging Through the Past Interest Project.  Girls should come ready to get dirty as they excavate a simulated archaeology site to learn about the people who once inhabited the area. Take a hands-on role to prevent erosion of the creek channel running through the museum grounds.  Meet a professional geologist to learn about earthquakes. Study fossils to investigate the history of the earth and the animals that lived in the past.  Fee includes admission to the museum.

Movin' On Up!

Bridging Girl Scout Juniors are invited to an overnight to begin their path into older Girl Scout adventures and the Girl Scout Cadette program. Program Aides plan and lead activities to help you complete bridging requirements 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

Groups are limited to the Safety-Wise ratios of 1 adult for each individual girl, 2 adults for groups of 2-20 girls, 3 adults for groups of 21-30 girls.  Fee includes program materials, overnight accommodations, Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast, snacks, and participation patch.

Accompanying Girl Scout Junior leaders and adults will have the opportunity to take the next age level training. Adults must register for training separately through the Adult Education calendar.

Program Aides for this event must be in 8th grade or above and be available to help with program setup on Friday evening on site.

Recognition of Excellence

This ceremony celebrates the leadership, service and positive impact of our council’s most accomplished young women. The Recognition of Excellence Ceremony is a longstanding Council tradition honoring all who have earned their Girl Scout Gold Award, Girl Scouts Heart of Central California Rose Award, Girl Scout Silver Award or Bridge to Adult Pin. We will also recognize Girl Scouts graduating from high school.

Girl Scout Gold Award, Heart of Central California Rose Award, Girl Scout Silver Award and Bridge to Adult recipients have met mandatory prerequisites, completed application processes and submitted all final reports by March 20, 2011. High school graduates have submitted the Celebrating Your Years as a Girl Scout form by March 20, 2011. Troops and volunteers are needed to help create a successful event; if you are interested in volunteering please email goldaward@girlscoutshcc.org.

Rockin' All Night

Rock climb through the night at Granite Arch! Safari Overnight

Have you ever wanted to explore the nightlife of animals?  Then join us for an exciting evening and overnight at the Sacramento Zoo.  Play animal games, see what some animals eat for dinner and find out what goes bump in the night.  In the morning you will finish up earning your Wildlife Badge as you meet some of the animal ambassadors.  Each troop is limited to the Safety-Wise ratio of 2 adults to 20 girls.  Troops must provide their own certified Level 1 First Aider. Kayak, canoe and windsurf all morning long. These activities and more await you at the CSUS Aquatic Center. A team of instructors will assist you in building skills and having fun. To start off this morning of water exploration, girls will participate in a swim test and must be able to tread water for two minutes. Fee includes instruction, snack and participation patch.  Adults do not participate in water activities.  Girls and adults should bring their own sack lunch.

Trailblazers

This is an overnight camping program for Girl Scout troops.  Each troop will get to enjoy a trail ride, horseback riding and roping demonstrations, as well as other traditional camp activities.   Please limit adults to the ratios found on p.56 of Volunteer Essentials (updated Safety-Wise) of two adults to every 16 girls.  Girls can register with a troop, or as an individual for this event.  Individuals need to have an adult attend with them.  Fee includes horseback riding instruction, program materials, a participation patch and food.

Victorian Tea

It's time to party!  Tea party that is! Put on your most fashionable hat and party dress and go back in time to the early years of Girl Scout history. Play games from the 1920’s, and learn the art of the fan. Have a delightful cup of tea or hot cider and try some dainty sandwiches and lovely pastries. Could our special guest be Juliette Gordon Low? Meet people who watch the weather everyday, learn how geography affects the weather and see instruments that help these professionals predict the weather. Fee includes activities, snack, and badge.

White Water Rafting

Are you ready for an adventure? The rapids on the South Fork of the American River will get your heart pumping as professional guides help you navigate the waters. No experience is necessary; however, you must be in good physical condition, be able to tread water for five minutes and swim 100 yards without a life jacket. Fee includes a professional guide, rental equipment, and lunch.  This is a girl only event.  Please note: Girls must register individually for this event; troop registrations will not be accepted.
