Brownie Fishing Fun

Rise and shine for a morning of fishing fun. Learn the basics of fishing from knot tying to casting. Have fun while you try to catch a fish! Bring your own fishing pole if you have one.  Fee includes instruction from knowlegeable Fishing in the City volunteers, equipment, snack and participation patch.

Wild Wonders

The animal families living at the Sacramento Zoo invite you to join them for a visit. Earn the Wildlife Badge as you meet the animal ambassadors at special presentations and complete activities throughout the zoo using activity passports.  After the event, you’re welcome to stay in the zoo for the afternoon to explore more.  Groups are limited to the ratios found on p.56 of Volunteer Essentials (updated Safety-Wise) of 1 adult for each individual girl, 2 adults for groups of 2-20 girls, 3 adults for groups of 21-30 girls. Fee includes Girl Scout program, Sacramento Zoo entry and badge.

Babysitting Basics

C

Become the best babysitter around at this 2 day training by Girl Scout Troop Leaders and trainers (this is not an overnight event). Learn what to do in a crisis, first aid, family interview skills and survival tips from successful babysitters. Fulfill most of the requirements of the Childcare Interest Project. Please bring a sack lunch on Saturday. Fee includes a handbook, a participation patch, basic first aid instruction and lunch on Sunday. Due to the nature of this course, one adult from each troop or individual registration must be willing to help instruct a segment of this event. Please contact the Program Specialist in charge of this event before Thursday, March 5, 2011. Adults will receive the complete lesson plan, tentative schedule and materials for the training via email. Minimal adult participation will result in the cancellation of this event.

Girl Power

Come join in on this fun and informative class teaching vital self-defense skills that will enable young girls to learn how to protect themselves.  The Eastern Ways Kid safe instructing staff will teach a dynamic and interactive seminar that will develop self defense & awareness skills. Using  Kung Fu you will learn how to confidently throw kicks, strikes and learn key target areas to keep kids safe. Through challenging skill drills & watching real life skits, girls will be empowered.  Fee includes professional instruction and participation patch.  Please note this program includes discussion of safe practices to avoid child abduction.

Invitation to the Dance IP Overnight

Step up onto the dance floor during this Interest Project overnight.  Dance has been a tradition throughout human history, varying greatly from culture to culture.  It incorporates other art forms, such as music and art. Not only can you enjoy watching the beauty of dance, but you can stay in shape and have fun by dancing yourself.  The skills you learn and steps you take will help prepare you to lead Girl Scout Brownies in earning their Dancercize Try-It or Girl Scout Juniors in earning their Dance Badge through workshops on Saturday. Fee includes dinner Friday night, interest project, light breakfast, and program materials.

Spend the morning exploring the Discovery Museum Science and Space Center's 14-acre nature area. Earn the Earth Connections Badge and do a hands-on study of the eco-system and learn about the web of connections that ties plants, animals and the environment together. Movin' On Up!

Bridging Girl Scout Juniors are invited to an overnight to begin their path into older Girl Scout adventures and the Girl Scout Cadette program. Program aides plan and lead activities to help you complete bridging requirements 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

Fee includes program materials, overnight accommodations, Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast, snacks and participation patch. Groups are limited to the ratios found on p.56 of Volunteer Essentials (updated Safety-Wise) of 1 adult for each individual girl, 2 adults for groups of 2-20 girls, 3 adults for groups of 21-30 girls.

Accompanying Girl Scout Junior leaders and adults will have the opportunity to take the next age level training. Adults must register for training separately through the Adult Education calendar.

Program Aides for this event must be in 8th grade or above and be available to help with program setup on Friday evening on site.

Earth Hour

Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.  Get your family and your troop involved in “going green”.  Visit http://www.earthhour.org/ for more details in how you can participate.  Log your hours and email them to us at Girl Scouts program@girlscoutshcc.org so we can see the impact made throughout our council.
