Between Earth and Sky

Discover your roots as you adventure into the wonders of the natural world! Take an in-depth look at life outside the city limits by exploring nature’s beauty and finding out ways you can help preserve our precious environment.  Mysteries of flora and fauna await, as you enter into the area Between Earth and Sky—just one of seven worlds* of fun, hands-on games and entertainment at our Girl Scouts 100th: Celebrating Green Forever event.

Between Earth and Sky
is a world of exploration, where girls can enjoy these fascinating “ag-tivities”:

Horse around:

Watch experts demonstrate exciting and adventurous riding skills with the Girl Scouts Heart of Central California’s very own horse team. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to watch these amazing creatures in action. Then take home an awesome photo of you, your sister Girl Scouts, and Nettie, the council’s miniature horse.

Meet Mother Nature:

Get the inside scoop on a world away from city living. Venture into the Cal Expo Forest to learn about native plants on a guided tour. Encounter wildlife and become a “zoologist” as you study tracks and make field observations.  Greet members of the Forest Service and find out about national parks in your area.

Capture your world:

Browse a gorgeous display of colorful and unique nature photos by girls and adults throughout the council. (Want to include some of your nature snapshots in this event-wide exhibit? Learn more about the easy-peasy submission process for our Legacy Art Contest. Deadline: March 1, 2012)

Be a happy camper:

Get excited for summer 2012 as you find out about the programs being offered at Camp Menzies. Learn new camp songs or share your favorites around a camp “fire” as you get a sneak peak at the adventure that awaits you this summer.

Leave your mark:

Gain tips on how to make a positive impact on the world between earth and sky. Decide which tree to plant in your neighborhood, connect with the food we eat as you learn about local farms, take a pledge to re-use plastic bottles and complete fun activities to reveal how you can help preserve our environment.

*Seven “worlds” at the Girl Scouts 100th: Celebrating Green Forever event on April 28, 2012: GIRLtopia (science, activism), aMAZE (music, dance), CSA Ultra Lounge (Just for Cadettes, Seniors & Ambassadors: entertainment, teen topics), A World of Girls (international games, songs, food), MEdia (self-expression, TV, art, theatre), Between Earth and Sky (nature, agriculture), and Get Moving (energy, health, environment).
