Resident Camp
Leadership Program at Camp Menzies
These specially designed leadership programs will show you how to develop and lead camp programs; all while improving your problem-solving skills and having fun with camp friends. A chance to gain supervised hands-on experience working with younger campers.
Counselor-in-Training (CIT) or Wrangler-in-Training (WIT) Fee:$400
*Prerequisite: At least 15 years old or entering 10th grade
Improve your leadership skills and learn about the needs of children in the camp setting. Explore the basics of developing and delivering camp program and camp operations. WIT’s will shadow riding staff at the horse corral and must have horseback riding experience. Sleep in tents.
Advanced CIT or WIT Fee:$450
*Prerequisite: At least 16 years old or entering 11th grade and completion of the CIT program or its equivalent
Focus on camp management and gain practical experience in various areas of the camp operation. Practice your leadership and program skills while working with younger campers. Sleep in tents.

Step 2-Application and References
Once you receive confirmation of placement into the program, complete a CIT or WIT application form and send it to:
Camp Menzies Director, Girl Scouts Heart of Central California, 6601 Elvas Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95819.
If this is your first summer as a CIT or WIT at Camp Menzies, have three references complete the appropriate reference form and mail them in to the office.
Step 3-Survey and Interview
After we have received your application and references you will receive an acceptance e-mail or letter with a skills assessment to complete and bring to camp. Advanced CIT and WIT participants may go through a phone interview with the leadership director 2 weeks prior to the start of their session. More details will be included with the acceptance letter.

Apprentice CIT or WIT Fee:$350
*Prerequisite: At least 17 years old or entering 12th grade and completion of the CIT/WIT program or it’s equivalent
Use your leadership and program skills as you work under the supervision of camp staff, in units, or at your favorite specialty area. Carry out an individual project and learn more about camp management. In an effort to provide more flexibility for girls participating in the Apprentice CIT/WIT program each girl will create an individualized schedule with the camp director prior to the start of the summer season. This will include attending one of three orientation weekends and three to six of our camp sessions or weekend programs.

Step 2-Application and Interview

If this is your first summer as a CIT/WIT at Camp Menzies, have three references complete the appropriate reference forms and mail them in to the office. The Camp Director or Assistant Camp Director will contact the applicant to schedule an interview once the application is received.
Step 3-Choose an Orientation Weekend
Each Apprentice CIT/WIT will be required to attend one of the following orientation weekends at Camp Menzies, during the weekend girls will work with the leadership director on their individualized project and finalize their summer schedules. Transportation to camp will be provided.

Step 4-Set up your schedule
During your orientation weekend you will finalize your schedule with the Leadership Director. In order to complete the training you should plan to attend at least three of our summer camp sessions or programs, you may attend more if you wish to. We will provide transportation to and from all programs provided that you are staying for the entire program. In addition to our regular resident camp sessions you can also choose to attend the following weekend programs:
Camp Menzies Reunion: Friday, July 5-Sunday, July 7
Troop Camping at Menzies: Friday, August 16-Sunday, August 18
Family Camp, Session 1: Friday, August 23-Sunday, August 25
Family Camp, Session 2: Saturday, August 31-Monday, September 2
