Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I give to Girl Scouts Heart of Central California?
For almost 100 years Girl Scouts has been the world’s preeminent organization for girls. Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. At GSHCC we inspire girls to their full potential, and help them to become leaders as well as responsible citizens of the community. Every donation made to our council benefits 28,000 girls and 10,000 adult members annually throughout our 18 counties*.
How will my donation be spent?
Approximately $0.92 of every dollar you give goes directly toward programs that help girls in our community grow strong. Girl Scout Heart of Central California (GSHCC) uses these proceeds to provide Girl Scout events and training, outreach, financial assistance, volunteer training and development, and management of council properties.
Do charitable foundations support GSHCC?
Yes. GSHCC receives grants and contributions from various foundations throughout the nation.
Does GSHCC receive funding from United Way?
Yes. Donors can designate their gift to GSHCC as their charity under United Way. We are also eligible to receive grant funding from United Way.
How can my company give to Girl Scouts? What are my options?
Companies can give to GSHCC in many ways:
- Make an annual gift or pledge.
- Conduct an employee campaign and list GSHCC as the beneficiary.
- Make a donation and ask your company to match your gift.
- Ask if your volunteer hours for Girl Scouts can be matched with a donation.
- Donate an in-kind gift (products or services instead of money).
What if I want to donate a product or service (in-kind gift)?
We accept items that can be used for GSHCC programs or for our properties.
Why is my purchase of Girl Scout Cookies® not considered at donation?
Both the Girl Scout Cookie Sales and Fall Sales Programs are designed to teach girls valuable life skills such as responsibility, honesty, money and time management, goal setting and planning, teamwork and communication. The products sold are considered an exchange of goods and the fair market value of these items is not tax-deductible.
May I designate my donation to a special program?
Yes. For more information about GSHCC giving campaigns please call or email us at (916) 452-9181 or FundDevelopment@girlscoutshcc.org.
