Campsite & Facilities
Camp Menzies is a 176-acre site located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains about 2 1/2 hours from Sacramento and 4 hours from San Francisco. The nearest town to camp is Arnold. Camp Menzies is heavily wooded with sugar pine, dogwood, black oak, ponderosa pine and incense cedar trees. In the mornings and evenings our weather is cool and in the afternoon it can be warm to hot with low humidity. Temperatures during the day average 85 - 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with nights dropping down to the 50 - 60’s.
The camp facility is semi primitive because some campers and all unit staff and specialists sleep on beds under the stars or in tents. There are shelters in camp in case of rain although it rarely rains in camp during the summer. Facilities include six living units for camper groups, an open-air dining hall and kitchen, shower houses, art and nature centers, health center and a staff house for recreational use. The camp also has a meadow for games and activities, hiking trails, and natural canoeing and swimming areas. Laundry and washing facilities are available in camp for staff to use.
