Troop Leadership
All troop leaders/advisors are required by council policy to take Troop Leadership training within three months after appointment to the position. Every volunteer working with girls in troops is encouraged to complete training so that the entire leadership team is ready to work together to provide a great experience for girls. Troop Leadership training consists of two parts which are taken in this order: Getting Started/Orientation and Leadership Essentials.
Leadership Training: Do It YOUR Way!
Leadership Essentials, and Girl Scout Cadette/Senior/Ambassador Advisor are currently available in the classroom setting, and also as online courses.
Getting Started/Orientation
This required two-hour session is given by your service unit orientation specialist and takes place within your service unit or local neighborhood. Topics include the structure of the Girl Scout organization and information for starting a troop. Contact your volunteer management specialist at a council office to arrange for Orientation.
FEE $0
Leadership Essentials - Prerequisite: Getting Started/Orientation
This training is given by council learning facilitators at convenient locations throughout the council jurisdiction, online and in-paper home study formats. Topics include Girl Scout program focus and goals, how to use Girl Scout resource materials, planning, troop finances and diversity. We recommend that you bring a Journey book set to the class. You can place a pre-paid telephone order with our council shop and the books will be waiting for you at your class if ordered far enough in advance.
